GE T&D India bags Rs.162 cr order from Powergrid for wind power evacuation in Guj
The company said in a statement the project will help strengthen the grid evacuation infrastructure in the western India and improve access to important demand centres.
GE T&D India Ltd, part of GE’s Grid Solutions business in India, today announced it has bagged a Rs.162 crore order from Powergrid Corp (PGCIL) for evacuating 2,500 Megawatt of wind power in Gujarat through the Green Energy Corridor Transmission System.
The order involves extending the 765 Kilovolt AIS Substation and setting up a new 400/220 KV Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) at Bhuj apart from extending the existing 400 KV GIS at Tirunelveli. The company said in a statement the project will help strengthen the grid evacuation infrastructure in the western India and improve access to important demand centres.
Multiple wind farms and solar projects are being set up in the West and a Green Energy Power Transmission Corridor is being installed to evacuate electricity generated by renewable projects. The commissioning of the project will all transmission of power generated by wind farms in Gujarat.
“As renewable capacity in the country goes up, it is imperative that grid infrastructure in states like Gujarat, which have high degree of renewable generation, is scaled up rapidly to keep up with the evacuation demand of solar and wind power into the Green Energy Corridor,” said Sunil Wadhwa, Managing Director, GE T&D India.
The company said the key equipment and automation systems for execution of the order will be supplied from its manufacturing facilities at Pallavaram, Padappai, Noida and Hosur. The project will be delivered on a turnkey basis.
